Sly x Carmelita Motivational by WebWalker756 Sly x Carmelita Motivational by WebWalker756
Hey! For those of you who haven't watched it, there's a cool little Sly Cooper Short called "Timing is Everything." Not only does it offer a lovely teaser of how awesome a Sly Cooper animated series could be, but it has an lovely little side-plot that focuses on the complicated relationship between Sly and Carmelita...and how, when it really matters, these two DO have a certain chemistry with one another. This is a screenshot of the big finale, when Carmelita's got Sly at gunpoint, having finally caught him...only for Sly to deftly push her pistol aside and steal the most precious thing of all--a kiss from the lovely Interpol vixen.

Given what a hard time Carmelita gave Sly in Thieves in Time (albeit with some justification), I felt compelled to create this motivational poster--both as therapy for myself, and to remind everyone that these two really DO have feelings for each other. Besides, we need more SlyxCarm goodness out here on deviantART!

Sly Cooper and Carmelita Fox are copyright of Sucker Punch Productions and Sanzaru Games, and Timing is Everything is a copyright of Sony and Ghostbot (the animation Studio that did the cutscenes for Thieves in Time). All rights reserved.

The fact that their situation is so complicated is what makes it so fun to watch, they're one of my favorite video game couples.

very nice.

a few (of my) theories about how they can be together for good:

:bulletblue:Someone Carmelita really looks up to in the police force/interpol is discovered to be a terrible criminal, and it sours her so badly that she throws away her badge and makes her decide to join Sly & the gang. (it could also be further explained that she was also looking for a reason to quit the force so she could be with Sly, and this just happened to occur.)

:bulletblue:Sly (or someone) finds a passage in the theivious raccoonus that basically says that a Cooper can give up his life of crime when he gets married.

(side note; I kinda have a little fantasy story with this:

During the events of Sly 5, Bentley enlists the assistance of Sly's dad to help track down Sly. Sly's dad then sees the genuine affection that Sly and Carmelita have for each other, and before he leaves Sly to return to his own time, he bookmarks that particular passage in the theivious raccoonus, and tells Sly and Carmelita to read it together. They read it after Sly's dad disappears and returns to his own time, they stop and look up (to the viewer) and they turn to each other, look into each others eyes and smile, and then they both say "I do" at the same time.)

I love those moments.
The dance in India, the train-ride in Vienna, that 2-hour chopper-ride over Paris...
And not to mention all those situations during Thieves in Time. the leap into the Ice age, the belly-dance distraction, discussing Galleth's antics... I swear, these two makes for one of the better game-couples I've known in years!

I know, right? Which really makes it hurt for me that they had such a rough patch in their relationship for most of this game...especially since they only had a fleeting moment of reconciliation during the finale, and now Sly's trapped in the past with his friends trying to find him. I can only hope that Sanzaru rolls out another game...and that Sly and Carmelita find a way to work things out. :(

I'm with you there, Web. And after all, Carm herself mentioned in-game (her Ice Age clip)that she actually acknowledged Sly working for the same cause as herself: justice. (justyouknowontheothersideofthelaw) So when they get reunited in Sly 5, she just have to decide: Sly, or Interpol?
...I know, that's a bit of a nut for her to crack. (PS: my money's on the raccoon)
On the other hand, I'm a little concerned for Bentley and Penelope's relationship, too. I'm just as baffled as any other Cooper-fan that Sanzaru made her double-cross the team (and thereby making her on par with Ne- ehrm, that cockney, sultry, purple wench of a feline).

Well, the first thing Sly and Carmelita have to do is properly reconcile--I mean, we got that moment of unspoken understanding at the very end, but I want to see them expand upon this. I'd like to see Carmelita explain to Sly that he couldn't have expected to keep messing with her and not expect her to take it personally--as much as I feel that she was INCREDIBLY harsh towards Sly for most of TiT, looking back on it, you have to admit that she's got some justification. Sly, for his part, could do with explaining just WHY he faked amnesia, and show genuine regret for it--not just try and flirt with her like he did in the Ice Age and Wild West animated cut-scenes. And calling her out on being so narrow-minded in the past (not to mention her behavior at present) wouldn't hurt, either--yeah, Sly screwed up here, but he's not the only one at fault in this complicated relationship.

The second thing is to find a compromise that both Sly and Carmelita can agree to. After all, being a cop is as much an inherent part of Carmelita's nature as being a thief is to Sly. Expecting either of them to completely abandon their respective life's calling is unrealistic, if you ask me. The solution? I personally think that Sly could become Carmelita's informant in the criminal underworld, tipping her off to major criminals and securing the evidence she needs to put them away. Of course, Carmelita's got to be willing to open her mind a little--she ACKNOWLEDGED that Sly stands for justice, but she wasn't sure at the time if she could live with that.

Then again, considering how she seemed more than willing to apologize to Sly--and maybe even more--before he fought Le Paradox, maybe it's not quite as hopeless a cause as it seems. Your thoughts?

And I share your concerns with Bentley and Penelope. I think Sanzaru might've felt that her role on the Cooper Gang was too similar to Bentley's, or something...

I love their relationship so friggin' much. Despite all the drama, the chemistry is there. Take for instance that small scene near the end of Sly 4- the way they understood each other and I guess kind of reconciled with little to no words shows how deep their connection has become. This is my all time favorite couple ever.

I know, right? The way they really ended up needing few words to reconcile at the very end--despite all the drama, and the way Carmelita had been giving Sly a hard time--shows that, deep down, Sly and Carmelita understand each other better than even they themselves realize. I just wish they'd had the chance to look at each other afterwards...and, you know...have a proper mending of their fences.

Damn le Paradox.

Hopefully, the sequel (and there BETTER be one) will give Sly and Carmelita a chance to discuss their relationship in detail and find a way to make things work.
